Margaret is a long-time Bondi local with a career that has spanned publishing, communications and teaching at TAFE, UNSW and the University of Wollongong. She is the Convenor of the Bondi Beach Precinct Committee, a group that works with Waverley Council on addressing community concerns in the local area. 

 

Margaret cares deeply about the unique challenges facing our community. For the past 25 years she has been involved in fighting against inappropriate development throughout Bondi. She led the bipartisan Eastern Suburbs for Yes campaign with other local politicians and is proud of the community's socially progressive result.

 

Margaret is a strong local voice fighting for resident's issues, preserving the best of Bondi and our environment and working hard to make Bondi a great place to live, work and visit. 

 

2024 Bondi Ward Policies: Putting residents first

 

Arts

  • More community arts at Bondi Pavilion; discount or free of charge rate card for local creative NFP communities and organisations

  • Identify public buildings that could be used by the creative community

 

Housing

  • Reduce the $10 million threshold for a social impact study to $5 million

  • Increase the 25% developer levy allocation for affordable housing 

  • Work with State Gov to give Councils the power to enforce affordable housing quotas 

  • Implement No Net Loss of Dwelling Density Planning Proposal (to reduce the loss of older style apartments that are more affordable)

 

Environment

  • Increase Waverley's tree canopy

  • Support solar and electrification of homes and businesses. I want Bondi to be the first net zero tourist destination in the world

  • EV chargers - increase numbers

  • Identify sites for community batteries and consult the community

  • Introduce FOGO (Food Organics, Garden Organics recycling)

  • Create a sustainability hub for locals to learn more about recycling and repair

  • Offer more e-recycling days for residents to get rid of toxic e-waste

  • Support more verge gardens: easier to apply; create a community network; fund a promotion plan

 

Local streets

  • Better and safer street lighting 

  • Managing e-bikes with geo-fencing and requiring sensible designated spots for them 

  • Improving parking, potholes and traffic

  • Finish the cycleway from the beach to Bondi Junction - fill in the missing links

  • Audit and replace lost trees to development

 

Community: 

  • Upgrade Bondi Skate Park to Olympic standard 

  • Funding for parks and open spaces

  • Promote and upgrade Waverley Library

  • Expand the Winter Festival to support business

  • Upgrade and maintain our heritage guidelines

  • Improve community consultation

  • Upgrade Campbell Parade
